CounterData.com Frequently And Commonly Asked Questions (And Asnwers!):Why are CounterData.com counters free?To put it simply, they are free because included in the code for your counter is a small text advertisement for a company who is looking for more web visitors. They purchase an ad on each counter, which covers the cost of providing it to you, and allows us to give this valuable service away. What if I want to move the ad or change the way it looks? Then go for it! The only things that you can not do is remove the ad entirely, change or alter the wording of the ad, or change the destination of the link. Common changes that you CAN make are:
Of course, if there is a question about whether or not it would be allowed, drop us a quick note to ask. The worst that can happen then is we say no, vs. just doing it and losing a week or two’s worth of data when we disable it for breaking our terms. Can I remove the ad? What happens if I do?No, the ad must stay on the same page as the counter for as long as you use our service; if it’s removed or altered, we will find out (We track these things, obviously, and eventually we will see it…) and your account will be disabled without any notification from us. 100% gone… Just like that. Do you offer stats on my visitors, like what their IP address is, what browser their using, and so on?Oh Yea! For more information on the stats that we provide, click here to view a popup all about our 100% free visitor statistics! What about an invisible counter? I don’t like the numbers showing everything to the world…Of course. Would you have expected anything else? We do offer simply the best free counter service out there and it wouldn’t really be complete without at least offering you the use of an invisible counter! Want to know more about it? Click here for a popup with more details on our 100% free invisible counters. I want to start my counter at a number other than 1. How?Real simple. When you sign up for a counter, we ask you for the starting number to be displayed. And that’s what we ad to your account the first time that the counter is shown (On the final page of the sign up process). Pretty straight forward, but please note that once that number has been set, it is set in stone and CAN NOT be changed without starting all over again! I want to change or reset the count on my existing counter. How?You don’t. For security purposes, once the first number has been set for a page, it’s done and can only be changed by people actually visiting your page. Sorry! Please note that we will not respond to contacts requesting changes be made to the number shown on a counter. Can I change the style of my counter in the middle of using it?Sure, just sign up for a new counter using the exact same page name and replace the code on your page. Our server tracks the graphic used and the data collected separately, so if you do that, it will show the old data with the new shiny and clean style! How do I find my stats page? There are two ways to find your stats page:
Please note that we will not respond to contacts requesting a copy of a link to a specific counter statistics page. Help: My counters not working!Since our counters are free, we do not offer support on them for the majority of problems. That being said, there are actually only a few common reasons why this could be the case, and here’s a few of them:
If none of that helps you, let us know about the problem and we’ll try and give you a hand. Probably we won’t reply, but if you’re lucky, we may choose to reply if you ask nicely. (Here’s the secret to getting our attention: use the words ‘golf club’ in your request, and then we’ll know you actually read this stuff first and will be more inclined to help…) Also, pointing out problems, issues, and other items to us might help us make an improvement for the future! |
